Why I love to Photograph Relaxed Domaine Weddings in Occitanie

What can I say about photographing this beautiful and relaxed wedding which was held at my couple’s domaine in Occitanie?! I first met Gina and Sander in May 2024 when they booked me for their upcoming wedding in May 2025. From the moment we met, it was clear that they were not only incredibly kind and welcoming, but also had such a warm and calm presence.

I still remember arriving at their beautiful home near Béziers and feeling so welcomed straight away. I felt instantly at ease and knew that we would get on so well. We spoke about how they wanted their wedding photographs to feel. They wanted their day to feel natural, colourful and joyful, they also told me that they had family coming from all over Europe so it was very important to them to have lots of time spent celebrating with their friends and family. Honestly as a documentary wedding photographer this was music to my ears!

It was filled with unforgettable moments that I’m so excited to share below. A groom in a swimming pool? Yes. A golden sunset over the rolling hills of the South of France? Absolutely. Family and friends travelling from all over Europe to create a day that felt joyful, relaxed, and full of love? Say no more.

An Outdoor Wedding Ceremony NEAR BEZIERS

I was so excited when Gina and Sander told me that their wedding was to be held in the gardens at Gina’s parent’s domaine. Celebrating in a place that already holds so many memories makes a wedding day feel incredible special and personal. It’s not just a beautiful setting, it’s a place that means something as it’s already part of their story. I knew straight away that celebrating their wedding day at this place would make the day feel even more relaxed and meaningful to them. There are so many ways to make a wedding day feel more personal without being too expensive. Gina and Sander used what they already had available to create a beautiful relaxing space.

An Informal Destination Wedding Reception In Occitanie

Gina & Sander’s wedding reception was so full of joy, laughter and spontaneous hugs. Choosing just a few of these moments to share here was not easy. Capturing these natural interactions of a couple is at the heart of how I photograph weddings. I believe that genuine emotions and the way people connect are timeless and far more personal than any passing trend. These are the moments that often go unnoticed during the day. However, they often become some of the most meaningful memories when couples look back on their wedding photos.

Another way their wedding day felt so relaxed was by holding their ceremony and reception in the same location. While it can be tempting to use multiple beautiful spots across the South of France countryside, giving guests time to settle into one place allows everything to unfold more naturally. After the ceremony, spontaneous hugs, conversations and laughter flowed easily, creating space for those more genuine, candid moments that Gina and Sander were hoping for.

With no pressure to rush from one location to another, the day felt calm and unhurried. It is something I often recommend for destination weddings in France, especially when like Gina and Sander, the setting already feels like home.

Golden Hour Moments in the Occitanie countryside

What a better way to end the evening before the party begins, than to take 10 minutes to take a quiet stroll through the vineyards of the South of France and debrief on the day so far. Golden hour is my favourite time to recommend that couples step away and have a moment to themselves. This time together doesn’t need to be about posing or disrupting the flow of the day. But gives couples the chance to pause and take it all in. The soft evening light and beautiful backdrop creates the opportunity for some lovely genuine moments between couples that can be captured naturally and without any pressure. Domaines in Occitanie are the perfect option for your wedding venue if you want that typical relaxed South of vibe.

Gina and Sanders was a beautiful reminder of how meaningful destinations weddings in the south of France can be when they are centred around connection, time together and a place that truly matters. Documenting their wedding day amongst their family and friends was a real privilege.
